How shipping containers have evolved

Shipping containers have been used since the 1950s, and it is one of the most used transportation modes today. Shipping containers were invented by Malcolm McLean, who founded the company Pan-Atlantic Steamship Company to transport goods to different countries. The first container ship called ' Ideal X' that sailed from Newark, New Jersey to Houston, Texas, started a new era in transportation as customers could ship goods across oceans instead of using trucks and trains previously.   In 1967, the European Economic Community called for standardisation in terms of containers. Containerisation made it possible for goods to be shipped across multiple countries at a lower cost. Each container could be transported on separate ships or trucks and could use different highways.
